Visit by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China to the Tribunal

Judge Tomas Heidar, President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, received the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Hua Chunying, at the Tribunal today.


Order in The “Zheng He” Case (Luxembourg v. Mexico)

By Order of 3 February 2025, President Tomas Heidar extends the time limit for the submission of the Memorial of Luxembourg to 24 March 2025 and the time limit for the submission of the Counter-Memorial of Mexico to 3 November 2025.

Vice-President Chadha reviews Tribunal’s judicial work in the Tribunal’s annual address to the United Nations General Assembly

Judge Neeru Chadha, Vice-President, addressed the plenary of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly yesterday during its consideration of agenda item 75(a) “Oceans and the law of the sea”.


New arbitrator appointed in the arbitral proceedings instituted by Ukraine against the Russian Federation

On 28 October 2024, the President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Judge Tomas Heidar, appointed Ms Kathy-Ann Brown (Jamaica) as arbitrator in the arbitral proceedings instituted by Ukraine against the Russian Federation under Annex VII to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (PCA Case No. 2019-28, Dispute Concerning the Detention of Ukrainian Naval Vessels and Servicemen (Ukraine v. the Russian Federation)).


IMO Secretary-General visits the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea

President Tomas Heidar welcomed Mr Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to the Tribunal today. During the visit, Mr Dominguez signed the guest book of the Tribunal, met with the Judges and was given a tour of the premises.
