President Golitsyn welcomes delegation of Judges of the International Court of Justice to Hamburg

The President of the International Court of Justice, Mr Peter Tomka, together with a delegation offive other judges of the ICJ, Judges Hisashi Owada, Antônio Cançado Trindade, Xue Hanquin, Giorgio Gaja and Julia Sebutinde, and its Registrar, Mr Philippe Couvreur, visited the Tribunal on 26 and 27 January 2015.


Côte d'Ivoire seeks provisional measures in the dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire in the Atlantic Ocean

On 27 February 2015 the Special Chamber of the Tribunal formed to deal with the dispute concerning delimitation of the

maritime boundary between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in the Atlantic Ocean received a request for the prescription of provisional measures. The request was submitted by Côte d’Ivoire under article 290, paragraph 1, of the United Nations Convention on the

Law of the Sea.


Tribunal delivers its Advisory Opinion regarding illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities

The Tribunal today delivered its Advisory Opinion on the Request submitted to the Tribunal by the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (SRFC) under article 138 of the Rules of the Tribunal. This is the first time in the history of the Tribunal that an advisory opinion is being rendered by the full Tribunal.


Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire in the Atlantic Ocean Special Chamber prescribes provisional measures

The Special Chamber of the Tribunal formed to deal with the dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in the Atlantic Ocean today delivered its Order on a Request for provisional measures filed by Côte d’Ivoire. Judge Boualem Bouguetaia, President of the Special Chamber, read the Order at a public sitting of the Chamber.

President Golitsyn reports to the Meeting of States Parties

On 8 June 2015, the President of the Tribunal, Judge Vladimir Golitsyn, addressed the 25th Meeting of States Parties to the

United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to present the annual report of the Tribunal.


Request for provisional measures submitted to the Tribunal by the Italian Republic against the Republic of India

On 21 July, the Italian Republic submitted a request to the Tribunal for the prescription of provisional measures under article 290, paragraph 5, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in a dispute with the Republic of India over the incident involving the MV Enrica Lexie, an oil tanker flying the Italian flag.

The Tribunal delivered its Order in The “Enrica Lexie” Incident (Italy v. India), Provisional Measures case today.


Tribunal holds regional workshop in Indonesia

The Tribunal held its eleventh regional workshop in Bali, Indonesia, on 27 and 28 August 2015. As in 2014 (the Nairobi workshop), the workshop was preceded by a seminar on “Maritime Delimitation and Fisheries Cooperation”, organized by the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on 26 August. Judge Vladimir Golitsyn, President of the Tribunal, and Judges Paik and Heidar participated as panellists in the sessions of the seminar dealing

with dispute settlement on maritime delimitation in international courts and IUU fishing in a global perspective.

Judge Vladimir Golitsyn, President of the Tribunal, gave his annual statement before the General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday, 8 December 2015, on the occasion of the General Assembly's debate on the item "Oceans and the law of the sea".
